ICT Key Enabling Technologies

A European high-level event under the Italian EU Presidency, co-organised by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and the European Commission Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content & Technology (Photonics) is to be held in Rome on 29 and 30 October 2014.

The first day of the event will be devoted to 'Photonics and Micro/Nanoelectronics: research excellence and industrial competitiveness to target societal challenges in Europe' and will focus on European strengths in these areas and how they can be translated into actual solutions for the benefit of citizens.
The second day is dedicated to 'Accelerating Large-scale Deployment of LED Lighting for Sustainable Smart Cities in Europe' and will present best practice experiences of European cities in deploying LED lighting solutions, provide examples of European, national and regional incentive and support schemes, and address LED lighting innovation in the Smart Cities context.
Micro- and nanoelectronics and photonics are amongst the Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) identified by the European Commission as key factors in strengthening European competitiveness, in particular in what concerns industrial productivity and innovation capacity.
